A focus on supporting the American economy and jobs for folks like us.

With this focus, we use as many materials from right here in the States as we can. It may not matter to everyone, but it does to us.

What is X-Pac?

X-Pac is a fabric produced by Dimension Polyant based in Connecticut. Developed as a sail fabric for racing sailboats, it has many high-performance properties that make it a great pack fabric. We love it for its technical prowess, loud colors, and consistent quality.

Waxed Canvas

The Buckhorn Standard:

VX21 is our standard fabric. It is constructed of three layers:

  1. a 210 denier nylon face (hence the 21 in VX21)

  2. a black polyester X-Ply grid on a PET film

  3. a 50-denier taffeta backing

The outer 210 denier face is then treated with a durable water-repellent finish. Collectively these layers create a very technical fabric with exceptional abrasion resistance, low stretch, durable waterproofness, and ultralight weight. Using this fabric provides many years of high-quality performance out of your gear. The fabric is inherently waterproof, however, the seams in our gear are not sealed. Therefore your bag can’t be used for hauling water to your campsite, but you can trust that it will keep your gear dry in a rainstorm for years to come.

Material Specs.

RX25

is constructed identically to VX21 except for a 250 denier polyester face.

Choose this if you like being LOUD and SEEN.

RX30

shares the construction method of RX25 but is made of 100% recycled materials solely in North Carolina.

Choose this for balanced durability with clean pastels.

X10

is made of a 10 oz natural cotton duck face fabric coated with a fluorocarbon-free DWR. It has a very traditional canvas look with the technical prowess of the other DP fabrics we love.

Choose this for a classic canvas look with bomber technology.

X33

uses a 330 denier Cordura nylon face fabric instead of the polyester or nylon offerings above and exchanges the taffeta backing for a shiny polyester film. Cordura is woven at several mills around the US.

Choose this for invisibility cloaking.

X50

shares the construction method of VX21 but uses a 500-denier Cordura face and substitutes a 400-denier Aramid X-Ply which is lighter weight, higher strength, and more abrasion resistant. It also uses the film backing found on the X33.

Choose this for ultimate durability with a less technical look.

X51

utilizes a 500 x 1000 denier Cordura face to create a highly abrasion-resistant, tear-resistant, high tensile strength, and waterproof material.

Choose this for ultra-solid, long-lasting bags.

Tweave Durastretch

is utilized in the stretch portions of our bags. It is manufactured by Gehring-Tricot in their Massachusetts plant. It is a stretch woven that is extremely durable and abrasion resistant while retaining its stretch properties over time and extended use.
